Belief & Faith: Jacob’s Encounter with God at Bethel
At El-Beth-El, our foundation is deeply rooted in the divine encounters and promises of God. The name "El-Beth-El" holds significant biblical meaning, as it was the place where Jacob encountered God in a dream while fleeing to Laban (Genesis 28:10-22). In this sacred moment, Jacob saw a ladder reaching to heaven, with angels ascending and descending upon it. Above the ladder, the Lord stood and spoke promises over Jacob’s life—declaring that He would give him the land on which he lay, multiply his descendants, and never leave him until His word was fulfilled.
Awestruck by this revelation, Jacob anointed the place, calling it "Bethel," meaning "House of God." This moment signified not only God’s presence but also His covenant, guidance, and unwavering faithfulness. It was here that Jacob realized he was never alone—God was with him, leading and protecting him on his journey.
This divine encounter serves as a reminder of God’s promises to all who seek Him. Just as He assured Jacob of His presence and purpose, we too hold firm to the truth that God is always near, guiding us through life’s uncertainties. At El-Beth-El, we seek to glorify God by sharing His word, embedding His promises into daily life, and encouraging others to abide in Him.
History: A Place of Covenant and Redemption
Years after Jacob’s first encounter with God at Bethel, the Lord called him back to the same place (Genesis 35:1-7). By this time, Jacob had faced many trials—he had fled from Laban, wrestled with God at Peniel, and was reconciled with his brother Esau. When God instructed him to return to Bethel, Jacob obeyed, leading his household to put away foreign gods, purify themselves, and build an altar to the Lord.
At Bethel, God reaffirmed His covenant with Jacob, changing his name to Israel and confirming the blessings promised to Abraham. It was a moment of renewal, a divine reminder that God is faithful to His promises. Jacob called the place El-Beth-El, meaning "God of the House of God," signifying a deeper revelation—God was not just in Bethel, but He was the true foundation of all things.
This powerful history of divine encounters, transformation, and faithfulness serves as the foundation of our brand. Just as Jacob built an altar to honor God, El-Beth-El was created to glorify Him and remind people of His presence in their daily lives.
